I can’t even tell you how much I love family portraits where the kids are kids and we get their genuine reactions and little expressions. I love starting out sessions with the perfectly posed ones, but as soon as we have that – it’s time to have some fun. No one likes sitting and staring at the camera for an hour, and as much as Grandma loves a posed photo, I have it on good authority, they also love to see family portraits that show families having fun, loving on one another, and the twinkle kids get in their eyes when they are laughing at something because they are having a great time.Kevin and Khyla did a great job of letting me run their family portraits just like that, the night before they moved from Newfoundland and Labrador back to the United States. We visited a couple of places in St. John’s because I wanted them to have some great backdrops to remember here by. They had lived in Newfoundland for a few years, so what better way to remember the place than by having fun with the kiddos on a warm(ish) summer night! We spent some time doing their family portraits in both Quidi Vidi and Cuckolds Cove. I love both of those places when the wind and light is just right. Thankfully, on the evening of their session, the sun was just sofly glowing as it came in around the banks surrounding Quidi Vidi. I absolutely love this last photo of the kids. There started out a little skeptical when I told them to lay on the ground. Then the dog got into the mix. And then Kevin hopped in there too. I love all of the shenanigans and I adore this last image so much!
Kevin and Khyla, thank you so much for choosing me to do do your family portraits. It was an absolute blast hanging out with you guys. I wish you safe travels and all the best on your next adventure!
